About this tool, FAQ and sources

Prepare for work, days out, journeys and the moments your gut gives you little warning. A plan cannot prevent every flare, but it can reduce the number of things you have to figure out in the moment.

How it works

You choose where you feel least prepared, what is hardest during a flare, what worries you away from home, what you'd like in your kit and which preparation steps help you feel in control. Your answers are turned into a personal checklist from an original Thesos library of practical tips.

It can

  • Help you feel more prepared
  • Collect practical tips in one place
  • Remind you when to get medical help

It cannot

  • Diagnose IBS or any other condition
  • Recommend medicines or doses
  • Replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist

Questions

What should be in an IBS emergency kit?
Common items include wipes, tissues, spare underwear, water and hand sanitiser, plus anything that personally helps you, such as a heat patch.
How long does an IBS flare-up last?
It varies from hours to days and differs between people. If a flare is unusually long or severe, or different from usual, speak to a doctor.
Should I take medicine during a flare?
Only as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. This plan doesn't recommend medicines.
